Greetings SJLES Families,
It has been an absolute privilege serving our students, staff, and families of St. John’s Lane Elementary this school year. For all of the unprecedented challenges and obstacles this year has brought, I know we lived our school system mission of ensuring academic success and social-emotional well-being for each student in an inclusive and nurturing environment that closes opportunity gaps. I believe in our mission statement and I enjoyed watching that mission come more alive by the day. We believe we are building the right culture, relationships, structures, and instructional practices that will allow us to provide even better service to our students in 2020-2021 regardless of what school will look like in the Fall.
I am extraordinarily proud of our students! Our Jaguars continue to impress me not only in terms of who they are as learners, but who they are as young people. Our students are not only respectful, responsible, and ready to learn as we expect of them, but they are kind, helpful, conscientious, and as happy of a group of young people as I have seen in my 21 years in education. I am proud of the work they did in our brick-and-mortar setting and especially proud of how they engaged, adapted, persevered, and succeeded with distance learning. I hope our students continue to engage with LexiaCore5 and Dreambox throughout the summer to keep their skills sharp.
To our students who will be attending Manor Woods Elementary, middle school, or another school next year, please know how much we will miss you! You will always be a St. John’s Lane Jaguar regardless of where you attend school next year. We hope you enjoyed the farewell video we shared with you during our virtual picnics this week. Additionally, please download this Official Proclamation From The Principal and add your name to blank space. This Official Proclamation entitles each student to a lifelong connection to our school and every and all corresponding privileges of an SJLES Jaguar while simultaneously providing them all of the privileges of being a Manor Woods Mighty Duck. You will rock it at MWES next year, kids!
I am so proud of and grateful to our staff! They are truly dedicated to creating a positive, engaging, supportive, and nurturing learning environment for our students and for each other. They are dedicated to their craft and to service to our community. They are unrelenting in their efforts to support your children. They have been outstanding collaborative partners with our administrative team and our families to do right by our kids. They know how I feel about them and how grateful I am for the work they did on behalf of our students and families this year, but I wanted to remind them just one last time.
It’s always bittersweet to announce the retirement of a staff member. This year we say farewell to Mr. Gerald Caroll, Night Custodian; Mr. Jim Kroll, Orchestra Teacher; Mrs. Jeanne Seifert, 1st Grade Teacher; and Mrs. Stacie Yakowenko, Teachers’ Secretary. Each staff member has made a tremendous impact on the lives of our students and families at SJLES over the years and they will be missed. We thank them for their service to our school and school system and wish them health and happiness going forward!
Families, it truly takes a collaborative partnership to make a school a great school and I appreciate the partnership and collaboration with you all this year. From the moment I learned that I would serve as your principal, you welcomed, supported, and encouraged me. It has been a pleasure getting to know our families this school year. Your dedication, involvement, and support of our students, staff, and administration has been uplifting and inspiring. We appreciate all of your efforts to support our students and our school throughout the year and especially during distance learning.
I kindly ask each family to please take a few minutes to provide us feedback on this school year. This feedback will allow us to reflect upon our service to our students and families and allow us to make more informed decisions as we plan for 2020-2021. We want to uplift that this survey has a different focus than the recent HCPSS survey. The information from our SJLES Parent Insights: End of Year Edition survey will allow us to reflect upon several aspects of our service to our students and families with a school-based perspective. A link to the survey is below…
Our leadership team is brainstorming some fun ways to continue engaging our students throughout the summer, so please continue checking your email for our SJLES Updates with information on these opportunities to connect with us. Families, on behalf of my outstanding partner Mrs. Redd and our entire staff, thank you again for your support and continued partnership! Have a great summer, stay safe, stay well, and stay tuned! THANK YOU!
