Bus & Transportation Updates Oct 2024

TRANSPORTATION UPDATES:

SOUTHVIEW ROAD

We are reminding our families to not park on Southview Rd. during arrival or dismissal. We have noticed that the numerous cars parked along both sides of Southview Rd. are creating blindspots for our walker students on that street. These cars also force students and families to walk in the middle of the road which is already narrowed due to the numerous cars on each side. Additionally, parking on Southview creates unsafe conditions for HCPSS buses. Parents in need of parking during arrival or dismissal are invited to park in the upper lot on St. John’s Lane. While SJLES administrators do no have permission or authority to place signage off of school grounds, we will place a reminder sign on the SJLES property side of the walker path to help lift up this request from the residents of Southview Road.

BUS RIDERS

It’s almost the end of October, and this means that bus riders have had several weeks to practice safe and positive bus behavior. We encourage all parents and guardians of bus riders to talk with their children this weekend about their bus rides and reinforce their responsibility as a student on the bus ride and at the bus stop. The HCPSS Transportation page outlines these responsibilities and shares that students are responsible for their behavior while on the bus and at bus stops. We remind all families that school buses are an extension of school and the same expectations and codes of conduct apply. Riding the school bus is a privilege and may be revoked if a student fails to observe the basic standards of conduct and safety required of them. Some bus drivers have implemented seating charts to provide further structure an organization, especially for our more crowded buses. Our SJLES Bus Team teachers continue to check in with drivers and students a few times a week to lift up our school expectations for the bus as well.
