Volunteer

As the school year progresses, there will be many chances to volunteer for your child's school.  When serving as a volunteer, you may find yourself taking advantage of opportunities such as helping out in your child's classroom, chaperoning for a field trip, shelving books in the Media Center, participating in a special activity, etc.  Each of these fun activities provides opportunities to interact with students, as individuals or in small or large groups.

Volunteer Training Required for Volunteers and Visitors
Anyone volunteering at school in any capacity, and parents joining their children for lunch, are required to complete volunteer training prior to their first visit.  Please visit this HCPSS site for more information. SJLES volunteer opportunities will be coming soon!

Confidentiality Training Course

Thank you for your interest in volunteering within the Howard County School System! We value our volunteers and the contributions they make to our students and schools.

According to HCPSS Board Policy, all parent volunteers must complete a Confidentiality Training Course about protecting the privacy of our students, staff, and schools.

Child Abuse/Neglect Training Course

Maryland State Law requires that Volunteers, including Parent Volunteers, complete annual Child Abuse Training prior to serving as a volunteer in any school.  Child Abuse Training provides volunteers with the opportunity to learn about child abuse reporting procedures when abuse is suspected.

We are asking that each of our volunteers complete Child Abuse Training prior to volunteering. If you have not yet completed the training, please use this link to view the attached PowerPoint presentation.  Once you have viewed each slide, please print the "Certificate of Completion" found on the last page.  Please complete the certificate and return it to your child's/children's homeroom teacher(s). Once you have done that you are ready to volunteer. It should be very easy to view the slides, print the certificate, complete the certificate and then turn it in to your child's teacher on your next volunteer day.

Thank you again for your participation in our school and helping to ensure that each of our students remains safe.
