Greetings SJLES Families,

It has been an outstanding week engaging with our in-person and virtual students here at SJLES. The sun is shining, the cicadas are emerging, and our staff and students are focused on closing out our school year strong. We look forward to these remaining days of school to celebrate all the hard work, engagement, resilience, and growth our students have demonstrated throughout this school year. Additionally, this is a time of reflection, assessment, and planning for our administrative and school leadership teams. Please take note of our first NEW NEWS item below. Our SJLES Family Feedback form provides an opportunity to share feedback, insights, and advice that will allow us to make more informed decisions throughout our planning and preparation for next school year. REMINDER: Parent Input Form For Students Attending SJLES Next Year

Our SJLES staff has already begun planning and preparing for the 2021-2022 school year. As part of this process, we would like to provide you the opportunity to share insights you would like us to consider as we begin the articulation process. This input form is for you, as parents, to relate specific information about your child that you feel would be beneficial as our staff collaborates to create next year's classes. Our goal of this process is to build heterogeneous classes which foster the academic success and social-emotional well-being of each student in an inclusive and nurturing environment that closes opportunity gaps. Please consider completing our SJLES Parent Input Form 2021-2022 by May 28th in order to provide us with valuable insights regarding your Jaguar(s).

Outdoor Mask Requirement Changes

In the May 14 superintendent’s community message, it was shared that HCPSS no longer requires masks to be worn outdoors while on school property, other than at athletic contests. This includes outdoor recess, eating school meals outdoors, physical education classes, and other times when students, staff and/or visitors are outside on school grounds. Masks may still be worn based on individual discretion, and social distancing during these times continues to be strongly encouraged to the extent possible. Masks will also continue to be required inside schools based on the State’s orders.

Spring Is Here!

Our Jaguars are really enjoying outdoor recess, both in-person and at home, now that temperatures are warming up! Please help ensure your child has a water bottle and wears layers when attending school in-person so that they can remain hydrated and comfortable throughout the school day.

2021-2022 Part-time & Full-time SJLES Positions

SJLES has part-time and full-time positions available for this upcoming school year. There are lunch and recess monitor positions available and positions to help support our students receiving special education services. Please contact Mrs. Redd at alexcia_redd@hcpss.org to learn more about these positions.

Math Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Assessments - Wed. 5/26

SJLES students in grades 1-5 will participate in MAP Math testing on Wednesday 5/26 from 9:00am - 11:00am. MAP Growth helps teachers understand what your child knows today, so goals can be set to improve growth throughout the year. To ensure accurate results, students testing virtually should answer the questions independently. Please feel free to contact Mrs. Redd via email (alexcia_redd@hcpss.org) if you have any questions or concerns.

2021-2022 Kindergarten & New Student Registration

Registration for the 2021-2022 school year is ongoing for new K through 5th grade students. To register a new student, log into the HCPSS Connect parent portal, and choose Online Registration in the upper right hand corner. Be certain to choose the 2021-2022 packet to register for next year. Notification of Enrollment Changes for 2021-2022

If you have moved or are moving soon, please notify us as soon as possible. We are available to assist you with transitioning to your child's new school. Whether it be another HCPSS school, a private school, or a school out of the HCPSS district, we are here to help. If you are transferring to another HCPSS school, our registrars will partner to make the transition as smooth as possible.
