Establishing Arrival & Dismissal Routines on the First Day of School
One of the biggest challenges our students face during the first week of school is managing and remembering their transportation arrangements to and from school. It is critical that from the very first day of school your child has consistent arrival & dismissal procedures. So, if your child will be a bus rider this year, PLEASE have your child ride the bus to and from school starting on the first day of school. We ask all families to “kiss and wave” good-bye to their children at the bus stop for bus riders, from the car for our car riders, or at the schoolhouse doors for walkers to allow your Jaguar to independently enter his/her classroom. Parents are not permitted to walk their children to class on the first day of school. We will have every staff member working to ensure all students safely get to their classrooms, especially our kindergarteners and new SJLES students. Our Open House on Friday, 8/23, is the perfect time for families to visit classrooms, meet our teachers, walk the building with your child, and take that “first day of school at school” photo. Your help in ensuring consistent procedures for your child and a safe and smooth start to the first day of school is greatly appreciated!
Arrival and Dismissal Doors
When SJLES was built 70 years ago, there were far fewer students arriving and dismissing through our doors each day. Today, we welcome almost 675 students into the building each morning! That is a lot of little bodies to keep safe and ensure they are getting where they need to go efficiently within only a few minutes. In an effort to better use the building and grounds design here at The Lane, we have updated our arrival doors. Please familiarize yourself and your child with the information on the SJLES website before the first day of school so they are ready to come in the appropriate entrance door. Thank you!
