Greetings SJLES Families,
Can you believe that we only have 5 more days of school remaining this school year? Our Jaguars are finishing STRONG and we are so proud of how respectful, responsible, and ready to learn they have been throughout these final weeks of school. We have enjoyed welcoming our families to our Pumped Up Picnics and look forward to celebrating our students next week, especially our fifth graders who are off to bigger and better things very soon. Reminder: Early Dismissals Next Week
Taking Home the 23rd School Wide Art Show
As we remove our wonderful art show from our walls we are asking for your assistance. Here’s how you can help…

6/14: Families of Kindergartners will be removing art off the walls after the Kindergarten Celebration.

6/15: after the 5th Grade Closing, Fifth Grade Families will do the same.
-
6/15: from 12:15 until 7:30 the hallways will be open for families to take their child’s art work off the wall and transport home safely.
Mrs. Peddicord will be available in the hallways to help. Artwork that is not picked up at end of evening on the 15th will be given to students to hand carry home on the 16th at dismissal. Any art that remains on walls after dismissal on the 16th will be saved and a plan will be made with families for return. All waxy clips stay on the walls to reuse for future displays. Thank you!
SJLES Indicators of Educational Equity Survey: 140 Parent Responses!
As part of our school improvement process, we are reopening the survey to seek additional input regarding our families’ equity priorities for our school. Please use the link below to complete the Indicators of Educational Equity Survey. We will use your input, along with other school data, to refine our school improvement plan for next school year.
The survey is anonymous and available in multiple languages. If you have children at more than one school, please complete one survey per school.

Closing Ceremony

What: Our Class of 2022 Closing Ceremony will provide an opportunity for our parents and staff to properly celebrate our 5th Grade Jaguars and mark the closing of their elementary school years at SJLES.

When: Wednesday, 6/15

Where: SJLES Cafeteria

Who: To ensure that each of our 112 fifth graders can have their parents/guardians attend the ceremony we must limit guests to 5th grade parents/guardians only. Our cafeteria has a maximum capacity of 369 people for meetings per Howard County Fire & Rescue Services. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

We will be Livestreaming our Closing Ceremony! Very similar to our SCH format, we will be sending a link which allows family and friends who cannot attend the ceremony in person to watch the ceremony in real time. On Monday, students will be bringing home a paper with all the information for the 5th Grade Closing Ceremony Live stream. It will include the link, directions for accessing the live stream and your student's HCPSS login information. An additional message will be sent out to log into the live stream via email, however the email will not include the student login information. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher.

Family Reception

What: Our post-ceremony reception will take place outdoors on our blacktop and amphitheater area. Additional family members are welcome to join us for this portion of our celebration, enjoy some treats, engage with our staff, take pictures, and be part of your students' special day. We recognize that this is a special day for your Jaguar and family, and we look forward to seeing additional family members during the reception. SJLES staff will be available to greet our reception guests throughout the ceremony.

What: There’s no better way to bring closure to our Jaguars’ time with us and make some final fond memories of SJLES than our annual Fifth Grade Picnic. Thanks to our 5th Grade Parent Committee for arranging a DJ, Kona Ice, and all kinds of memory-making fun! We encourage our 5th Graders to wear their 5th Grade T-shirts to school.

End of the Year Health Room Reminders
Medication is not able to be kept in the Health Room over the summer and may be discarded if not picked up by the last day of school.

Immunization Reminder - If your child/ren receive any immunizations, please be sure to provide a copy to the Health Room. Maryland State Department of Health requires these immunizations and if your child/ren are not compliant, they may be excluded from school on the first day of returning for the 2022-2023 school year until immunizations are completed or an appointment is scheduled.

Medications in Health Room for 2022-2023 school year - Students who require medications to be kept in the Health Room for 2022-2023 school year, both Prescription and Over the Counter Medications will need to have new orders provided to the Health Room. New orders must be dated on or after July 1,2022. Please note HCPSS Health Rooms do not provide any medication to students unless provided by the family with a proper medication order form.
DreamBox Access Ends 6/30
Please note that student access to Dreambox will be turned off on June 30, 2022.
Spread the Word: 2022-2023 Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration for families of children who will be 5 by September 1, 2022, is underway. Please encourage any families you know who will have kindergarten students here next year to complete as soon as possible. Parents can begin the enrollment process online, after which our registrar will contact you to complete the registration process. Current HCPSS prekindergarten students do not need to be re-registered for kindergarten because they are already enrolled as an HCPSS student.

Thank you to all our families who attended the Virtual Welcome to Kindergarten. For our rising kindergarten families who could not attend, no worries! REMINDER: Chromebook Summer Storage
HCPSS has been fortunate to have a 1:1 device ratio for most of our students. As we come to the end of the 2021-2022 school year, we will implement the following summer 2022 Chromebook storage and use process for specified grade levels.

|
Student Chromebooks will be stored at school over the summer. Each student’s assigned Chromebook will be returned to them for use during the 2022-2023 school year.

Grade 5
|
Students will keep their Chromebooks over the summer and take them to their assigned middle school at the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
|
All students participating in a HCPSS Summer Program, including Extended School Year ESY and ESY-RECC special education, may take their Chromebooks with them for the summer so that they can be used during their program. At the conclusion of HCPSS Summer Programs, students will keep their Chromebooks for the remainder of the summer and take them to their assigned school at the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
Students not returning to HCPSS should return their Chromebook to their home school on or before the last day of school for students. Please look for additional information from your child’s homeroom teacher regarding end of year procedures for Chromebooks.

Daily Health Check Reminder
Parents/guardians MUST perform a COVID-19 health check every day before your student leaves home.
