SJLES Update 9/2/22

Fri, 09/02/2022 - 7:53am

Greetings SJLES Families,

As we approach the end of the first week of school, Ms. Coleman, our staff, and I would like to take a moment to thank you for helping us get off to a great start! Our Jaguars were excited to start the year, happy to see their friends and teachers, and understood that coming back to school is special and important. You all have taken time to read many emails, purchased the various nuanced school supplies, completed your student’s Family File and other forms, demonstrated patience as we fine tune our processes, followed our safety guidelines for arrival and dismissal, and supported and encouraged our students and staff. Our school and community start this 68th SJLES school year with a positive attitude, a collaborative spirit, a trusting partnership, and a common goal of making this the best and most successful school year for every Jaguar from St. John’s Lane. Ms. Coleman and I can confidently say that we are off to a great start!

All HCPSS schools are closed Monday in observance of Labor Day. We hope you all have a wonderful long weekend and we look forward to an awesome week #2 at The Lane. Once again, thank you!

Sincerely,

Dan Notari

SJLES Principal

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

Please click here to review our recently updated car loop procedures. Our car loop is designated for families who drive their children to and/or from school and drop them off and/or pick them up from their vehicle. Our car loop is not designated for walkers.

The car loop parking lot is not designated for car rider parking during arrival or dismissal. Parking your car and having your child walk through the car loop increases safety risks for all. Parents who wish to walk to meet their child should park in our UPPER parking lot (north end of our campus closest to Mt. Hebron HS) and meet their child at the walker door at the rear of the building by the portables. If this applies to you, please designate your child as a WALKER in your child’s Family File and notify the homeroom teacher so your child is dismissed through the walker door as a walker.

Thank you for your attention to these updated changes which we believe will keep our students, staff, and families safe. Please see Mr. Notari or Ms. Coleman with any questions.

Back To School Nights

Our Back to School Nights offer our families the opportunity to hear about all aspects of the new school year from our administrative team, our PTA, and our staff. Please note that our families are the intended audience for Back to School Night presentations. Students may attend these events, but please understand they will not be very engaging for your Jaguar.

  • 9/13 @ 6:30-8:00 PM - Back to School Night for Grades 1 & 2

  • 9/14  @ 5:45-6:20 PM - Gifted & Talented Program Information Night

  • 9/14 @ 6:30-8:00 PM - Back to School Night for Grades 3-5

HCPSS News & Important Text Alerts

HCPSS News email and text alerts keep families up-to-date on news and events, and deliver real-time notices of emergency closings and information. In addition to emergency notifications, during the school year HCPSS sends a weekly message to families with timely information. All HCPSS News subscriptions are generated from the information provided in Family File and have been automatically updated for the 2022-2023 school year. Parents/guardians new to the system are automatically enrolled for email notification.

Please note that anyone who has not done so must opt in to text alerts. SJLES will utilize text alerts for important information and reminders including late buses, emergency closings, important events, etc.

Family File Updates

Thank you to the 88% of SJLES families who have updated their student’s Family File so far. Every year HCPSS parents must complete a Family File for each child to provide our staff with emergency information and so much more. Parents/guardians must verify and/or update information for each child, and can do so by logging in to HCPSS Connect PARENT ACCOUNT and selecting the MORE OPTIONS tab on the left and then clicking on Family File. Thank you for helping us reach our goal of a completed Family File for every SJLES Jaguar!

HCPSS Code of Conduct

The HCPSS Student Code of Conduct provides a framework to support behavioral goals and disciplinary policies. While students are expected to be aware of and abide by this Student Code of Conduct, we all play a part in ensuring our school is a safe place where all students can learn. We look to partner together as families and school staff to support the social-emotional skill development of our students.  At SJLES, we implement programs such as social-emotional learning, Positive Behaviors Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and restorative practices to help teach and reinforce school-appropriate behaviors and build community amongst our students and staff. We thank you in advance for your partnership in working together to create a safe learning environment for all of our students. Click here to learn more about the HCPSS Student Code of Conduct.

Free and Reduced-Price Meal Program

As HCPSS recently shared, the federal government has NOT extended waivers allowing free meals for all students. As a result, students whose families do not qualify for free or reduced lunch will be required to pay the daily meal price for the 2022-2023 school year. In addition, all qualifying families must apply for our FARM's program as soon as possible in order to receive free or reduced meals for the 22-23 school year.

  • 2022-2023 Daily Meal Prices: Student Breakfast - $2.00 / Student Lunch - $2.80
