Greetings SJLES Families,

Happy Monday SJLES! Today’s Update features several important items I want to bring to your attention. In our New News section you will find all the details you need to know regarding our upcoming Field Day on Friday 6/3. I know our PE team and students are very excited about Field Day. I am pretty pumped as well, as this will be my first in-person SJLES Field Day. We hope you take the opportunity to provide us with your insights and input for the 2022-2023 school year by completing the three items under Parent Input/Homework Reminders within the New News section. Additionally, the Mark Your Calendar section of our Update now includes a comprehensive list of important dates through the end of the school year. We will continue to add dates to this list as they become available. We hope you all had a great weekend and here’s to another outstanding week with our Jaguars here at SJLES!

Field Day is Coming!

Get ready for another fun-filled Field Day at SJLES!  Field Day will take place on FRIDAY JUNE 3, 2022 for students in all grades. If needed, the rain date will be on Friday, June 10, 2022.  The time for Field Day will be 9:15 am-3:00 pm.

Many parent volunteers are needed to make Field Day a fun experience for everyone.  Enthusiasm is the only expertise needed to manage the activities.  Parent volunteers and staff members will run the stations. Classroom teachers will accompany classes and supervise the children. If you can contribute your time and energy for Field Day, please visit this link for sign-up genius by FRIDAY MAY 27, 2022.  Volunteer slots are available as full day (9:15 - 3:00), half day morning (9:15 - 11:45), and half day afternoon (12:30 - 3:00) but volunteers can sign up for any block of time they are available. We need many volunteers to make our Field Day a success! When you volunteer, information will be sent home with your child the week of Field Day with your assignments and station directions.

As with all HCPSS volunteers, Field Day volunteers must adhere to HCPSS guidelines regarding vaccine requirements. Please complete the following steps by Friday May 27, 2022 to volunteer for Field Day:

1.     Verify your vaccine status using this website

2.    Complete the short volunteer confidentiality training and then fill out the form and bring it to school.

3.     Complete this short child abuse training and complete the certificate linked and bring to school.

Our Physical Education (PE) Team thanks you for your continued support of our PE program and department.  An all-day Field Day is a major event and can only happen if we all work together for the students.  We welcome anyone who wants to volunteer to make this day a good time for everyone.

Field Day Shirts for Sale

Field Day is scheduled for Friday, June 3rd (rain date: Friday, June 10th). To celebrate this fun day, the St. John's Lane Field Day Tee Shirt Sale is coming!

Order forms for tee shirts will be sent home today, Monday April 25th, so please check your child’s backpack.  This year's tee shirt orders can be placed online at https://sjles22.itemorder.com or complete the order form and return to school with payment.

We hope that everyone can order a spirit wear shirt this year.  Everyone always looks great out there on Field Day wearing their tees! Please note the online order deadline of Friday, May 6, 2022. More detailed information will be forthcoming soon, including how you can sign up to volunteer to support this school wide event.

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is a public education program sponsored by Ms. Foundation for Women and was launched in 1993. This year,  Take Your Child to Work Day will take place this Thursday, April 28.  This can be a great opportunity for our students to investigate future careers.

If you are planning to take your child to work with you next Thursday, 4/28, please send an email to sjlesabsence@hcpss.org and cc your child’s homeroom and math teacher.

Parent Input/Homework Reminders

We want to uplift three opportunities for our families to share insights and feedback to help inform our planning and preparation for the 2022-2023 school year. In other words, we are giving you some homework! Please know that uplifting your voice is critically important and necessary in helping SJLES shape an accessible and rigorous instructional program and an inclusive and engaging school culture. Thank you for your time, insights, and continued partnership!

Parent Homework Assignment # 1 - Due 4/29

Indicators of Educational Equity Survey - As part of our school improvement process, we are asking families to provide input about their equity priorities for our school. Please use the link below to complete the Indicators of Educational Equity Survey by Friday 4/29. We will use your input, along with other school data, to refine our school improvement plan for next school year.

The survey is anonymous and available in multiple languages. If you have children at more than one school, please complete one survey per school.

If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Notari at dnotari@hcpss.org. Thank you for your time and insights!

Parent Homework Assignment # 2 - Due 5/6

SJLES Student Expectations Survey - Our SJLES staff is so proud of our Jaguars! Our students consistently demonstrate outstanding behaviors and traits within our school building and throughout our community. We here at SJLES are grateful to our families for our collaborative partnership. This partnership helps our Jaguars learn the skills, knowledge, and confidence to positively influence our larger community today and prepares them for rewarding employment in the dynamic, international workplace they will be leading once they leave the comforts of HCPSS years from now.

Our SJLES student expectations are at the core of our instruction, social emotional learning, and our school climate and culture. Our current expectations are Respectful, Responsible, & Ready to Learn. In order to ensure that these guiding principles best serve our current and future Jaguars we are seeking input from our SJLES staff, students, families, and other community stakeholders.

Please consider completing this brief SJLES Student Expectations Survey by Friday, May 6th, to help shape our approach to assuring the academic success and social-emotional well-being of each SJLES Jaguar going forward. We appreciate your time, insights, and partnership. Thank you!

Parent Homework Assignment # 3 - Due 5/27

Parent Input Form For Students Attending SJLES Next Year - As part of our planning and preparation for 2022-2023, we would like to provide the opportunity to share insights you would like us to consider as we begin the articulation process. This input form is for you, as parents, to relate specific information about your child that you feel would be useful as our staff collaborates to create next year's classes. Our goal of this process is to build heterogeneous classes which foster the academic success and social-emotional well-being of each student in an inclusive and nurturing environment that closes opportunity gaps. Please consider completing our SJLES Parent Input Form 2022-2023 by May 27th to provide us with useful insights regarding your Jaguar(s).
