May Day: SATURDAY | Online Auction: NOW | In Person PTA Meeting 5/15 

MAY DAY IS THIS SATURDAY! 

Bring all your friends and family to enjoy a day at the Lane, tickets will be sold during the event - 1p.m. to 5p.m.

THE ONLINE SILENT AUCTION IS OPEN FOR BIDS NOW!

Even if you are unable to attend May Day this year, you are able to still support the PTA by bidding in the online auction.

In order to vote on the next board, our next PTA meeting will be in-person in the media center on 5/15 @ 6:30. Please come join us!  We are still looking for PTA Council of Howard County Representatives! These positions are critical for SJLES to stay up to speed on what is happening in the county. June 12th @ 6:30: 5th Grade Graduation Pool Party

‘Healthy Minds, Healthy Me’ Program: Building Resilience Together

New to the Healthy Minds, Healthy Me program? Get the background and catch up on prior week’s resources on the the SJLES PTA Facebook page and Healthy Minds, Healthy Me program page on the PTA Website.

This is the final week of our virtual Healthy Minds Healthy Me campaign and the focus is on how to build your family’s and our SJLES community’s resilience - the ability to thrive in spite of adversity and significant stress. We’ll have a table at May Day this weekend and we hope to see you there!

LEARN: 

• Watch: Building Resilience

• Read: Kids and Teens Need Resilience - They can learn it - and we can help!

• Read: What Families Can Do To Build Resilient Kids

TAKE ACTION:

• Work Together: Talk with your child about resilience and work with them to complete the Gratitude Worksheet. A positive outlook and being hopeful about the future are key ways to build resilience.

• Create: A Family Action Plan for Building Resilience - revisit the SJLES PBIS and SEL strategies discussed in the SJLES Healthy Minds kickoff video to get ideas.

• Practice: Mindfulness is a tool to build resilience, practice using mindful.orgs list of activities or one of the apps recommended by the APA (two are completely free).

GET SUPPORT:

If you or your child seems stuck or overwhelmed and unable to use these tips, you may want to consider talking to someone who can help, such as a psychologist or other mental health professional.
