Catch up on Walk to School Day, Spirit Wear AND Trunk or Treat!

Walk to School Day Tomorrow

National Walk and Roll to School Day is tomorrow!  Students can walk to school, from school, or both to earn a charm! Be sure to enter through the school’s rear entrance. PTA volunteers will be outside to distribute a charm to every student who participates. If you are only able to walk home from school, after your walk contact Sayli Moskowitz at sayliw@gmail.com or Liz Petrella at petrella.liz@gmail.com with your child’s name and homeroom teacher, and we will make sure students receive their charms. The Jaguar Spirit Wear Online Store is now open! Click here to place your order. Check out our tees, hoodies, and more available in both youth and adult sizes. The deadline for orders is Sunday October, 15th. Orders will be delivered to SJLES and sent home with your student(s) in early November. Please note, items are custom, so there are no refunds, returns, or exchanges. If you have any questions please contact: SJLES.Spiritwear@gmail.com.

Our 2nd annual FREE Trunk-or-Treat coming up on Saturday, October 28th from 3-5! Come in costume if you’d like, and enjoy festively decorated cars and lots of treats! There will also be a Hot Cocoa Bar and DJ.

  • Wanted: Your Trunk! Click the link to reserve a spot for your decorated trunk! Space is limited to 23 cars, and registration closes on 10/21.

  • Candy needed! To buy a bag of candy or treats for donation, please purchase a $10 bag from our PTA store.

  • RSVP Here!  This is not required, but it will help us plan for your ghosts and goblins. Suggested RSVP by 10/25.

  • Volunteer Here! If you are able to help make our 2nd Annual Trunk or Treat a success, please volunteer to help. We will start setting up at 2PM and hope to have everything cleaned up by 5:30PM

Winter Coat Drive

We are collecting ALL sizes of coats to make sure that everyone stays warm this winter! Please bring in your new or gently used CLEAN coats anytime between now and October 13th. There is a box directly outside the front office where your coats can be placed. The PTA Council of Howard County has a goal of 1,000 coats so please help us get there! Please contact Contact Melanie Eitelman (703)795-1771 with any questions.

PTA Meeting Tomorrow

Please join us tomorrow for an update from Mr. Notari, information regarding our PBIS program from our School Conselor Mrs. Poirier, and our board members and committee members.

Ready to Get Involved?

A great way to get involved during the school day is to Sign up for Lunch & Recess Volunteering.  Some specific lunch tasks that we need help with are:

  • Helping students in the cafeteria open lunch item packaging, refilling water cups, obtaining spoons when needed

  • Responding to students when they raise their hand for something they need (bathroom, etc).

  • “Traffic control” in our hallway intersection when outdoor lunch students transition back into the building

  • Assisting school staff in wiping down tables in the outdoor tent in between lunch shifts

Lastly, the PTA funds school-wide assemblies, family fun events, teacher appreciation activities, teacher-requested classroom supplies, and so much more. Without a PTA these events would not be possible.  Visit our online Membership site to make your tax-deductible donation.

*Important Reminder for Volunteer Requirements

All volunteers must complete a Confidentiality Training Course about protecting the privacy of our students, staff, and schools, and the Child Abuse and Neglect Training about reporting any suspicion of child abuse or neglect to Howard County Department of Social Services. Once you complete the courses, which take 10 or so minutes, please print out the certificates and give them to the front office prior to your volunteer shift. These need to be completed every year, before any volunteer shift at SJLES.
